Fire rating refers to the flame-spread ratio for a particular type of material. Three classes differentiate material types by this flame-spread ratio - Class A, Class B, and Class C. Class A offers the greatest protection for your home and will take the longest for a fire to burn through before attacking different areas of the home. For roofing material, it's not just the shingle that matters, it's the underlayment as well. When installed properly the underlayment and the shingles protect your home from a fire.
This is the key place that sets Davinci apart from Euroshield. Davinci offers a Class A fire rating when installed properly using their own underlayment. Euroshield only offers a Class C fire rating when installed with their underlayment. This means that your home is not as safe using Euroshield. In fact, in El Paso County, which encompasses Colorado Springs and the surrounding areas, Class A Roofing material is required by the building department in order to obtain a permit. This means in order to install Euroshield you would need to install Davinci's underlayment first. This would compromise the factory warranty for the underlayment and for the Euroshield shingles.
Impact rating classifies different roofing materials through intense testing. Underwriting Laboratories created the tests to determine how different roofing materials would withstand impacts, particularly from hail. In order to obtain the highest classification, Class 4, the material must be able to withstand a 2-inch steel ball dropped from a height of 20 feet twice in the exact same spot and show no sign of damage. Davinci and Euroshield passed this test successfully and earned the coveted Class 4 rating.
Homeowners in Colorado Springs and the surrounding areas regularly experience high winds. These wind speeds often damage asphalt shingle roofs and leave homeowners searching for a viable alternative. Both Davinci and Euroshield offer a superior wind rating to asphalt shingles. They each have been tested to withstand winds of 110 miles per hour. This means homeowners feel a greater peace-of-mind during wind storms knowing their roof will continue to protect their home.

Many factors help homeowners choose the best material for their roofs. These factors include the value over the lifetime of the roof, durability, and of course curb appeal. Roofing manufacturers strive to improve their products to meet these goals for homeowners. Likewise, a good roofing contractor stays up-to-date with the best materials and style to help guide a homeowner through these tough decisions. Euroshield rubber roofing and Davinci Roofscapes both offer excellent style options for homeowners to choose from. They also deliver products that last longer than standard asphalt shingles.
When choosing a material for your roof, it’s important to look at the pros and cons of the many options available to you. Our experts have extensively reviewed two of the most popular composite shake and slate roofing options above. While we believe that Euroshield offers a good product for some geographical locations, our experts whole-heartedly recommend Davinci Roofscapes. Hennessey Roofing recommends Davinci primarily due to the increased fire rating. We value the safety of our customers and believe in installing only the best products for protecting your property and more importantly your family from harm.
Furthermore, our team believes that a warranty is a critical piece of the decision-making process when it comes to choosing the best roof for your home. Even though it is possible to install the Davinci underlayment with the Euroshield shingles, we strongly urge homeowners to consider the warranty ramifications of this decision.
